Expectations

Wizard of Id

Have your expectations ever led to disappointment? Have they ever led to delightful surprise? I’ve been a lot more pleasantly surprised in life than disappointed. That’s the great advantage of being a pessimist. 🙂

What about you?

I’m a pessimist & am constantly pleasantly surprised. However worry comes before the surprise. So it’s better to expect the best.

    bikehikebabe,
I mostly don’t worry, I research contingency plans. I usually don’t need them but I learn a lot and have a good time, so it’s a win-win situation. Curiosity is one of my favorite emotions.

surprise, surprise – I actually have a brain and it works!

I can think of dozens of things both ways of the ‘expectation of life’ – some bad, some so-so, some good, some great…

it’s called life and I don’t think we should worry either way…ok, I’m not advocating throwing the baby out with the bath water but let it happen if necessary.

have had correct this over and over because I have written one of my stories in the last hour and my fingers/brain are tired – surprise, surprise brain works well 🙂

Interesting way you pose the question. I don’t think I have “expectations” as such. As twee as it might sound: Every day I wake up like the proverbial bird in the morning, singing with joy in my heart; occasionally wondering how/why the cat managed to catch me by late afternoon/early afternoon. Doesn’t matter. As long as there is a NEXT morning.

PS I don’t kiss frogs on principle; not only because they are green.

I have been batting googlies, what you will call curve balls in baseball, for so long that I have stopped expecting anything and welcome all things that come along. Is that optimism or pessimism? Practical perhaps.

    Cathy,
I’m not at all surprised you have a brain and it works!

    Ursula,
Life must be treating you well if you can wake up joyful every morning.

    Rummuser,
I would say it’s pretty optimistic if you can welcome everything that comes along.
